The Five Lands

The Five Lands, in Italian language “Le Cinque Terre”, a place where tradition and culture blend in with the beach life. A place where time stopped and nature is the dominant feature in the landscape.

If you have never heard of the Cinque Terre and this is the first time you read about it; or if you heard of it already, but you have never had the chance to actually discover the place, then this article is a must-read!

Cinque Terre is located not too far from the city of La Spezia, in the region of Liguria, and it has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Composed by different villages, this incredible area faces over the Mediterranean Sea, presenting rock cliffs, and stone beaches where it is possible to enjoy the fresh and clean water.

Cinque Terre is absolutely magical as it does not present any sign of corporate development, and the whole landscape is as natural as authentic. Paths, trains and boats connect the villages, as cars are not allowed to enter the towns.

Not many people would go to this area when traveling to Italy, as it is not a popular destination amongst foreign tourists. It’s more of a holiday place for locals.

This is also what makes it so beautiful and unique: you won’t be surrounded by commercial villages, and souvenir shops, but when in the Cinque Terre, you will actually be able to experience the real Italian atmosphere.

If you want to reach this place, you can either fly over to Genoa and take a local train to the Cinque Terre, or also get to Milan or Rome and drive or take a train there. If you want to experience the real Italian adventure, then fly to Genoa or Milan, drive to La Spezia, and from there head to the Cinque Terre! The drive is more or less 3 hours long.

This place is completely isolated from development, chaos and traffic, it is a perfect getaway for those who love to be immersed in nature, and are passionate about culture. When there it is possible to walk along the coast and visit the different villages, while tasting the local food in some ‘trattoria’ (restaurant) by the sea.
